I keep getting a read failed auto disconnect when I turn on my system. Sometimes it happens a few seconds later, sometimes a few minutes later. I have to turn it back off then on. I have to do this 4-5 times sometimes then it works fine. Some times it will do it after it has been on for a few hours. This is a KFLOP, Kanalog and snapamp. I am running this from a laptop.

Hi Ryan,

Is this something that just started?  Did you change anything?  How are you powering KFlop+Kanalog+SnapAmp?  Did you check the supply?

It has done it from the beginning when I installed everything a year ago. It seems to do it a lot more now. I am powering the boards from a 450W pc power supply. The power supply is brand new. My old one went bad. I do no think its loosing power because I have a lighted fan in the control box powered by the same supply that does not shut off.

Hi Ryan,

You might check the +5V at KFLOP.  Some PC power supplies don't like supplying such low power.  The boards might only draw 5W which is very low for a 450W supply.

Otherwise maybe a noise or grounding issue?  How are your grounds connected?  Do you have earth ground connected somewhere?  Do you have shields on your cables?  Try to isolate a noise source by unplugging each amplifier separately to see if the issue goes away.

Is KFlop re-booting or is the PC just disabling the USB port?  If you hit OK does it re-connect?

Maybe try a different PC?

Sorry no magic bullet here.

Regards
TK

Grounds are connected in the cabinet and the cabinet to the frame of the machine. Earth is grounded to the cabinet. This happens before I can even initialize the snapamp and kanalog. If I hit ok, it does not reconnect. I have to turn the power off on the kflop and back on or unplug the usb cable and plug it back in.

When I flash a new version of software into the kflop, do I have to redo the usb driver?

No, if you FLASH New Version to KFLOP you do not have to change or update the USB Driver.  It might not be a bad idea though.

Ryan,
I have a similar problems, until I resolve a grounding issue.
Check carefully, wire by wire where and how you ground the system. All grounding theory well described on the net, but main it is a central point for grounding and shielding.
You dealing with a serious currents and relatively high frequency - all this cause a different grounding problems, and need to take seriously.
Look on power supply - need to have enough current and be stable.

Overheating it is another issue, which need take in to consideration.

What is your setup looks like? Would you share images and diagrams?

I just look on the net, and here is links:
http://www.experimentalaircraft.info/articles/aircraft-electrical-power-ground.php

Another link to the Book, on wiring aircraft signal and electric wires for smart people:
http://www.experimentalaircraft.info/articles/aircraft-wiring.php

It is good start point.
There is no shortcuts in the wiring and grounding.
I aviation community people ask some time:
Are you doing a "proof-of-conception" or a flying machine?
So, answer this question and make right.

Happy milling,
Vlad
